A Call to every Nation, Tribe & Tongue
To All Believers,
Recently, our great sin as Christians. and the sins of our forefathers have come to our attention while researching the spiritual heritage of Oregon. We not only discovered facts which have brought great conviction to our hearts, but we were reminded about the great commission: Matthew 28:16-20 therefore, go and make disciples of all nations!
We have also read the story of the journey undertaken in the early 1800s by a party from the Nez-Perce, who traveled at great peril from their native lands to St. Louis Missouri, seeking the Book of Heaven, the “talking leaves” of ancient prophecies. Our hearts ached as we read the words spoken by He-oh-ks-te-kin:
“We come to you over a trail of many moons from the setting sun...
We come to you with our eyes partly opened for more light for our people, who sit in darkness . . .
We made our way to you with strong arms, through many enemies and strange lands . . .
The two fathers who came with us – the braves of many winters – we leave asleep here by your great wigwam. They were tired of their journey of many moons, and their moccasins were worn out. Our people sent us to get the white man’s Book of Heaven . . .
You have made our feet heavy with burdens of gifts, and our moccasins will grow old with carrying them, but the Book is not among them. We are going over the long, sad trail to our people. When we tell them in our big council, after one more snow, that we did not bring the Book, no word will be spoken by our old men, nor by our young braves. One by one they will rise up and go out in silence. Our people will die in darkness, and they will go on the long path to other hunting grounds. No white man will go with them, and no Book of Heaven to make the way plain. We have no more words – farewell.”
That is why we invite you to join us on Mt. Ashland on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning August 13-14 & 15th., 2010. We want to confess our sin and the sins of our forefathers publicly and seek God’s forgiveness and your forgiveness. Please help us re-enact the meeting of your people with the early missionaries who came in response to the search party and the disappointment echoed in the words of He-oh-ks-te-kin. Please allow us to deliver to a representative from each nation a special bible.
Please come to pray and sing worship to the one and only true God.
Bring the sacred drum, and share with all assembled, the sacred dance.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Pastor Denny Stahl
